On account of International Radiology Day ( 125th anniversary of Discovery of X-rays by Mr. William Roentgen) Manipal Team of doctors talk to Aksheev Thakur on Radiology playing a key role in diagnosis. Early diagnosis of the diseases is made possible when RT PCR test result is regarded as high clinical suspicion, said Dr Sudarshan Rawat, HOD & Consultant – Radiology, Manipal Hospitals Old Airport Road. Radiation therapy is a treatment for cancer. Radiology has different modalities for imaging the patient. Pet CT and pet MRI are all part of radiology. Artificial intelligence is the main thing in future, said Dr Abha Verma, Consultant – Radiology, Manipal Hospitals Whitefield. Abdominal pain is a very common emergency. Radiology (USg or CT ) helps identify the cause. The exposure of such patients to air pollution may cause life-threatening exacerbations. Mothers unlikely to infect newborns with covid- Dr Teji Dawane, Consultant - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Manipal Hospitals Whitefield; Dr Gayatri Karthik Nagesh, Consultant - Obstetrics & Gynaecology , Manipal Hospitals Old Airport Road.

There can be various routes of transmission of the virus from the mother to baby. They can include through the placenta, or at the time of delivery or through breast milk. However, there have been only a couple of cases that I know of to date, where the virus was transmitted through the breast milk, said Dr Teji Dawane, Consultant - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Manipal Hospitals Whitefield. “The risk a covid-19 positive mother carries are the general risks faced by others when they get the infection. Additionally, if the mother goes into labour when she’s having respiratory complications due to the infection, there may be certain risks. Otherwise, there is no mentionable risk", said Dr Gayatri Karthik Nagesh, Consultant - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Manipal Hospitals Old Airport Road.
