The major risk factors of PCOS include overweight or obesity, unhealthy lifestyle, stress, physical inactivity, family history of PCOS, etc. Due to abnormal hormonal stimulation, PCOS causes certain clinical manifestations including disturbances in the menstrual cycle, excessive acne, elevated levels of the male hormone called (androgen), excessive hair growth or hair loss, enlarged ovaries with many cysts along with mental health disturbances like anxiety and depression, said Dr Tasneem Nishah Shah, Consultant – Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Manipal Hospital, Whitefield.

The standard treatment of meningocele involves excision and repair of the meningocele within 24 to 48 hours of birth. These days some select centres in the world are offering Foetal Meningocoele repair. This involves closing the spinal defect during pregnancy at 19-26 weeks gestation. We had many survivors in Manipal. One of our patients was able to conduct his daughter’s wedding after discharge from the hospital. Another young Ayurvedic doctor will be able to go back to work when she completely recovers in a few months’ time.
