If the oxygen saturation is above 94 percent, such patients do not require oxygen support.Patients with below 94 percent may require oxygen support. Coverage Update: In second India COVID-19 wave, life grinds to slow lane in Karnataka

A new “triple mutant variant” (B.1.618) has emerged as a new challenge. Researchers believe that this variant will be more infectious, spread quickly, and make several people sick in no time. Its effect on the efficacy of vaccines is yet to be studied, said Dr Basavaraj Kuntoji, Consultant - Internal Medicine, Manipal Hospitals, Malleswaram. The triple mutation B.1.618 “is a matter of concern”, adding that scientists are still working to learn more about this variant, said Dr Ranjeeta Adhikary, Consultant - Microbiology, Manipal Hospitals, Old Airport Road. The triple mutant variant which was first detected in Bengal was now showing up in isolated cases in other regions of India and even abroad, said Dr Ranjit Mohan, Consultant - Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Manipal Hospitals, Old Airport Road.

Covid 2.0 is even more infectious than Covid 1.0 - Dr Basavaraj Kuntoji, Consultant - Internal Medicine, Manipal Hospitals, Malleswaram.

According to the health ministry analysis, the number of Covid-19 cases is dangerously increasing. The Covid-19 cases have spiked at a rate of about 2 lakh cases/day from about 8000 cases/day during the first wave which is of serious concern.
