Best Urethroplasty Treatment in Delhi

Urethroplasty is a surgical procedure that involves reconstruction or replacement of the urethra. The urethra, which is a tube through which urine flows out of your body, becomes narrow (urethral stricture) due to sexually transmitted diseases, a build-up of scar tissue, inflammation or injury that restricts the flow of the urine, etc.  The procedure for urethroplasty takes anywhere from 2 to 5 hours depending on the length and extent of reconstruction.  There are many techniques used in urethroplasty to correct urethral stricture including,

  • Excision and primary anastomotic (EPA) urethroplasty:

    • This technique is the gold standard for treating short urethral stricture disease.

    • In this procedure, the narrow segment of the urethra is cut out surgically (excised) and the two free ends of the urethra are joined together.

  • Buccal mucosa graft urethroplasty:

    • In this technique, the size or the circumference of the narrowed urethra is increased with the help of a graft.

    • A graft can be harvested from any part of the body, but it is usually taken from the inner lining of the cheek/mouth (buccal graft) or extra-genital skin is also used.

  • Penile flap urethroplasty:

    • In this technique, a flap of the penile skin is used to treat long and complex urethral stricture

Post-surgery, you may experience pain, uneasiness or discomfort. Pain-killers are prescribed for a few days or until the pain subsides.  A small catheter is inserted inside the penis until the wound is healed.  An antibiotic ointment is applied to the wound to prevent infection.
