Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG) Surgery in Delhi

A laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical approach to weight-loss. The conditions that warrant for a sleeve gastrectomy include:

  • Morbid obesity (body mass index (BMI) ≥35)

  • Obesity-associated medical issues

  • People with a high appetite who eat enormously

Sleeve gastrectomy uses laparoscopy/Robotic to make multiple tiny incisions on your abdomen. Most of the stomach (about 75%) is removed giving it a “sleeve” like appearance and hence the name ‘Sleeve gastrectomy’. In this procedure, a part of the intestines is removed or bypassed. The procedure may last for about 1  hour.  Post-surgery, weight loss is achieved by restricting your food intake, restricting the hunger hormone called ‘ghrelin’ thereby lowering the appetite, and reducing hunger pangs.  Since your stomach is now converted into a small pouch, it can contain a limited amount of food. Even after eating small quantities of food, you will have a feeling of fullness and will continue to do so for a couple of hours. The stomach functions are preserved and the nutrient absorption is not hindered. There can be a significant improvement in your overall health. Obesity-related complications including sleep apnoea, hypertension, blood cholesterol levels, diabetes, etc will be under control.  Sleeve gastrectomy is mostly safe with fewer side effects. Sometimes, there may be bleeding or infection at the site of the incision. Therefore, utmost care should be exercised during the recovery period.

The benefits of using robots in surgery include:

  • The robot provides a better, clearer, and magnified vision with a sharp 3D view

  • With smaller incisions, you will have fewer visible scars, a low risk of infection, shorter hospital stays and speedy recovery

  • With its lobster-like claw grip, robotic surgery gives a wider range of motion
