The prognosis of spinal cord injury depends upon the severity of the disease. Normally, the patient may have a certain level of recovery within 6 months of injury. After 6 months, the chances of recovery are small. Rehabilitation therapy may help to reduce the extent of disability.

Yes. It is very important to keep the head and neck of the patient immobilized. Any movement may increase the risk of complications. It is very important to keep the spinal cord stable during transport in an ambulance. Immobilization after an injury is an important deciding factor in determining recovery.

Currently, there is no cure for damages caused due to spinal cord injury. Certain medications and rehabilitation therapy may improve the patient's condition and make him more independent. Researches are ongoing to find a complete cure for this condition.
