Also called nephrolithiasis, renal calculi, or urolithiasis. Stones in the kidney form, when your urine has high minerals such as calcium, oxalates, or uric acid, that form hard deposits inside your kidney and urinary tract. Diagnostic tests include blood and urine investigations, imaging tests. Smaller stones are removed using certain medications that help dissolve the stones and pass through the urine, while the larger stones are broken into smaller fragments using procedures like percutaneous nephrolithotomy, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, parathyroid gland surgery and others.
